The Future of Humanity Institute at the University of Oxford seeks interns to contribute to our work in the area of technical AI safety. We're looking for someone with an academic background or interests and management/organisational abilities to coordinate and develop this project and area of research. These include existential risk, astronomical waste, the simulation argument, nanotechnology, the great filter, infinitarian paralysis, prediction markets, and analysis of superintelligence, brain emulations scenarios, human enhancement, transhumanism, and anthropics. The Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Oxford investigating big-picture questions about humanity and its prospects. While innovation often produces great wealth, it has also often been disruptive to labor, society, and world order. This report introduces a new policy lever to this discussion: the Windfall Clause. This funding will help the FHI to scale up its research efforts and make advances in these and other crucial research areas, especially research towards artificial intelligence (AI), its alignment, governance and coordination, and biosecurity.This stream of funding will foster new research and future research leaders in the fields of technical AI safety, governance of AI, biosecurity, and other challenges facing humanity with the advent of advanced technologies.

This funding will cover costs associated with the programme until 2021.
