"Ella Enchanted is 100 minutes straight of trope after endless overdone trope, CGI enhanced castles, juvenile slapstick, vaudeville/caricature that is ignorant of its own campiness, a terribly written screenplay with grating pacing, indecisiveness of which theme and genre mash-ups they're going for, but worst of all - weirdly uncomfortable sexual innuendo.Nothing like the book.

At birth, Ella is inadvertently cursed by an imprudent young fairy named Lucinda, who bestows on her the "gift" of obedience.

But her intelligence and saucy nature keep her in good stead as she sets out on a quest for freedom and self-discovery as she tries to track down Lucinda to undo the curse, fending off ogres, befriending elves, and falling in love with a prince along the way. If you like the book, you will be disappointed at this movie.

They are enamored by the Disney princess genre, even princesses who do not fit nicely into the company's traditional definition of princess.

She meant to bestow a gift. Until last week, I had never viewed the film with them, being that I hardly fit the definition of girly girl myself, often opting for whatever sporting event is in season. The opportunities for being taken advantage of are mind-boggling (but strictly G-rated). Sometimes we have things forced upon us we never wanted in the first place just because the person doing the forcing wants to force additional social interactions with others in the future. She caught on quickly, though, and was quite enchanted...no pun intended.

That fool of a fairy Lucinda did not intend to lay a curse on me.

A few of the themes are overcoming curses (obstacles/difficulties), loss of loved ones, and dealing with difficult people/life situations. When I cried inconsolably through my first hour of life, my tears were her inspiration. Her friend, Prince Charmont, is in love with her, but Ella knows she can never marry him -- her curse would put him in grave danger. A first-rate work of climate fiction. Just letting you all know: I'm only going to review books I love. The stepsisters are deliciously evil.

The fantasy elements are clever and not too over the top.

I read this book aloud to my children and they loved every minute! A book is too hard to write.Just letting you all know: I'm only going to review books I love. A cast of fantastic and familiar fairy-tale figures includes the foolish fairy who bestows gifts nobody wants, a wise fairy godmother who refuses to use magic for anything important, and a gnome toddler with a baby beard. I also wondered, even if she couldn't leave her stepmother's house, could she at least tell the awful woman to go make her own damn breakfast once in a while? I enjoyed it thoroughly!First read of the 2016 Booktube-a-thon! Honestly, just do what Ella did and cut them out for eternity.
